In the non-profit sector. I’m happiest when I’m turning a person’s story into a cracking campaign for a brilliant charity.

Now: Senior Copywriter at Donor Republic, Australia’s leading Fundraising Agency.

  • Working with dozens of Australia’s biggest charities (Vinnies, Oxfam, WWF, Cancer Council, Peter Mac and heaps more) to make sure stories are told to perfection, to bring in more funds to change lives.

  • Constantly working through concepts, short and long-form copy across all medias to bring charity messages, missions and stories to life.

  • Mentoring junior writers and training anyone in the agency who might have an interest in the craft.

Fave projects have been creating new and interesting ways to engage donors; self-care guides with tips from the volunteers that care for the sickest people out there, brand new personalised ways to talk to the carers of people with eating disorders, and a campaign that turned a sob-story of a man with vision loss into a joyous success story, with great results.

2019 - 2021: Fundraising Communications Specialist at the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Sydney Australia.

Came in and shook up the way they talk to their donors. Took ownership of the newsletter, rebranded it and increased regularity. introduced them to accessibility testing. Developed donor stewardship and personalised it to their type of support (so they were talking to people who donate monthly differently to people who do sports events). Planned content, produced communications and churned out appeals, newsletters, campaigns that made their supporters feel like the absolute life-savers they are.

2017 - 2019 Senior Copywriter at Breast Cancer Now.

Using the power of words to make life-saving research happen. Fundraising speeches, campaigns, letters, emails, cash appeals, key messaging and tone of voice development. Owned the ToV, messaging and assisted in the direction of the rebrand during the merger.

2015 - 2017 Creative copywriter at CHI&Partners

Above the line advertising for British Gas, Argos, Nexus, The Times, MaxFactor to name a few. Daily responsive advertising for News Corp, seconded to The Sun until the CD called the editors c**ts. A fun stint.

2013 - 2015 Copywriter at TMW Unlimited

Learned how to write ads under some truly wonderful people for some fab clients. HSBC, Nissan and Unilever Direct Mail and print adverts took up the majority of my time, with the most fun coming from Virgin Trains. Virgin was where I realised tone of voice could make all the difference.
